Village Shopping, New York

Villages' remain popular shopping destinations

Villages' remain popular shopping destinations

At the bottom of Hudson Street in Tribeca – opposite the new Issey Myake store and Nobu – J Crew have recently opened a store called Ludlow in a stunning colonial building.  Lots of tweed and British style tailoring.  Great service and English country house style fit out – I loved it! Likewise in Elizabeth Street in trendy Nolita – Polo have RRL which only very discreetly advertises itself as part of Polo Ralph Lauren.

Again their style is very much New England style country house and they do a lot of heavier denims and cords. The level of service within these stores was truly brilliant and whilst I tried on clothes in RRL, my wife was given coffee and an Ipad with links to the mainline stores allowing her the ability to reserve products for collection later that day.

Villages’ remain popular (Greenwich/Chelsea /Tribeca/Nolita etc) but they are starting to all have a similar look and feel and very ‘samey’ tenant mix.  Many of the ‘indies’ seem to have a moved out which is a shame but they are still great locations and personally I think are nicer and more sophisticated than similar London locations at the moment.
