Intoxicating smell of freshly baked bread

Victoria Broadhead

The Tin Shed is an artisan bakery and café, tucked away behind Portobello Road on All Saints Road. I made my first visit one Friday morning with a friend. On approach, the intoxicating smell of freshly baked bread made our stomachs rumble with anticipation and quickened our steps through the door!
The décor is simple and rustic, with wooden tables and a large marble counter. They have a fabulous courtyard at the back which we decided to sit out in as it was a perfect crisp autumn day. Going with a classic Antipodean brunch dish I had their avocado mash on sour dough, followed by one of their delicious cakes which are on display at the bar.
Maybe part of its appeal is that it is away from the busy tourist areas, so you feel like you have found a hidden gem. Either way well worth a visit, if only for a quick coffee and a catch-up with friends.
