Stockwell Continental, London

A Stockwell institution - with good reason!

The freshest, most imaginative Italian food I have ever eaten

Zoe Schoon

I have had the pleasure of dining at this fabulous little restaurant 3 times now, and I am somewhat reluctant to tell anybody about it as I want to keep it all to myself!  Serving the freshest, most imaginative Italian food I have ever eaten (and having spent considerable amounts of time in Italy when I was younger, this is no mean feat) this place will not remain a secret for long.

It’s the brainchild of the nearby equally popular gastro pub, The Canton Arms and the newest member of the Anchor and Hope family.

It stands on the site of a previous much-loved Stockwell restaurant, Rebatos, and looks like it won’t disappoint the local community in carrying this reputation on.

The menu is small but perfectly formed, but it’s the freshness that will really make you want to keep coming back.  Fresh focaccia and sourdough is baked every morning, they make their own salami, aperitivos and digestivos and rare-breed organic meat is delivered from Swaledale in Yorkshire. The menu changes daily, according to seasonality and what is currently inspiring the chef.

At my last visit I had crispy Polenta in honey and parmesan, incredibly fresh burrata in chilli oil and honey and the most fabulous pizza made with truffle oil and asparagus. I can also vouch for the meatballs, Calabrian sausage, roasted octopus and the glorious tomatoes grown on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius.

Stockwell Continental is a great example of attention to detail in a menu and quality, fresh ingredients.  This combined with eclectic, friendly staff and a brilliant chef, means that this is one restaurant you want in your life!  Just go.
