L’Oustalet, Provence

Mediterranean fine dining at its best

Mediterranean fine dining at its best

Victoria Broadhead

L’Oustalet is a wonderful restaurant in the centre of Gigondas – a picturesque town in Provence. The restaurant is owned by the Perrin family who make wine at world-renowned Château de Beaucastel in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and at Tablas Creek in Paso Robles California.
The interior decor seamlessly blends ancient and modern, bare wood tables and minimal displays. The outdoor tables spread out onto a stone terrace overlooking the renovated square, which is peppered with ancient sycamore trees – a spot that was once a parking lot and is now filled with picnic tables.
The food is classically provincial with an extremely knowledgeable sommelier serving delicious wine, which of course you would expect in this part of the world and from a restaurant owned by Francois and Jean-Pierre Perrin! The chef, Laurent Deconinck is a great believer in food complimenting the wine – this is Mediterranean fine dining at some of its best.
