Libreria, which bans the use of electronic devices, is a new bookstore concept by Second Home. Kicking the trends of modern bookstores Libreria is the brainchild of Rohan Silva and lies adjacent the entrance to Second Home on Hanbury Street.
Libreria is packed wall to wall, floor to ceiling with books. Books are categorised in suggestive themes such as ‘home and hearth’ for cooking rather than more standardised categories such as ‘fiction’ and ‘non fiction.’ The thinking behind this unconventional display arrangement is that it allows customers to immerse themselves and make unexpected connections and purchases.
In a way it is not targeting customers who know exactly what book they want to buy, but more celebrates literature in general and the experience of the store, where customers get lost in the books! Events are an important element of the stores DNA and it is scheduled to hold some fantastic events that range beyond the standard author’s questions and answer sessions. The store also has a printing press in the basement on which customers can sign up for courses and print their own work. Definitely a must visit particuarly when you fancy bucking the Waterstones trend!
