Whilst scootering around Panglao Island in the Philippines we stopped off for ice cream at the Bohol Bee Farm, which turns out to be much more than just a bee farm. The farm started out life purely an organic vegetable and produce farm. Such was the success of the organic produce that this has grown and evolved to include a shop, restaurant, production kitchen, arts and crafts centre and most recently some rooms.
The whole farm has a very rustic and homegrown feel, completely charming to walk around and explore. Due to the popularity of visitors to see the farm there are now guides to walk guests around the complex. As you walk around the farm you see the production kitchen making the flavoursome spreads which are then sold in the shop, you see the team drying tea and sewing up teabags, you see the bee hives that produce the honey, you see the weavers and basket makers producing their wares and most importantly the ice cream parlour producing tens of different flavours.
Although we didn’t stay at Bohol Bee Farm, I did try the salted honey icecream  which was seriously good. And also returned for dinner in the restaurant with beautiful views over the sea. The restaurant is large and simple in construction/ design but the food was great. Super fresh, imaginative, pretty and tasty. All that in combination with a mojito and the sunset made for a fairly special dinner! An inspiring place and interesting to see how the ‘concept’ evolved naturally from farm to restaurant to tourist honeypot, yet keeping the environment and locals at it’s heart.
