Cornwalls cosiest weekend retreat

Cornwalls cosiest weekend retreat

The town's location, close to the tip of Cornwall, means it often feels a bit warmer than the rest of the country. Add to this a load of excellent restaurants and four beaches all within walking distance of each other, the renovated fisherman's quarter was a great autumn break.
Our accommodation Moon Shadow is just behind the eastern end of Porthmeor Beach, one of a terrace of slate-fronted fisherman's cottages. It was completed in 2013 and is part of the offering from Beachspoke – a company which now has four top-end self-catering properties in the town. Beachspoke is part of The Peligoni Group, a collection of boutique travel experiences which includes The Peligoni Club on the Greek island of Zakynthos, Peligoni Ski chalets in the Alps, and Beachspoke. Split over two levels Moon Shadow has an open living space and kitchen downstairs with the entire of the upper floor devoted to bed and bath —with a walk-in rain shower and king size bed caked in White Company goods.
For dinner there are plenty of great restaurants. We ventured to the Seafood café & The Black Rock. Seafood Café has a counter full of fish for you to choose from. Choose your sauce, then your potatoes, and they whip it up! The Black Rock is run by local chef/ farmer David Symons. Every item on the menu is carefully sourced, from line-caught fish to fresh game, then cooked up with his unique flair. We visited Back Rock twice it was so good. As usual not enough time to do everything but we will definitely be back!
