Balgove Larder, St Andrews

An absolute must when visiting St Andrews!

An absolute must when visiting St Andrews!

Nick Halley

Butcher, farm shop, cafe and steak barn; Balgove Larder lies on the Strathtyrum Estate about half a mile from the main western entrance to St Andrews. Balgove Larder offers the best of Scotland, from steak to whisky - this is an absolute must when visiting St Andrews!
Having been recommended as a must do during our visit to Scotland, we decided to swing by Balgove Larder farm shop to choose a few delights for the week ahead of us. A few hours later we left laden with enough to feed a small army having roamed the farm shop and butchers and about a stone heavier having been lured in to the steak barn.
The steak barn menu focusses around meat from the butchery, served with chips and salad with various side dishes. Starters and desserts are also on offer. Produce is locally sourced with steaks from Balgove Larder’s home-reared cattle and burgers and sausages freshly made by the in-house butcher.  With walls built from wooden potato crates and trestle tables providing the seating. Regular summer pop-up events are often held in the barn, including a monthly Night Market held in collaboration with local producers, breweries, distillers and musicians.
