Gallow Green, New York City
Whimsical rooftop hideaway
Manhattan bar and restaurant not to be missed
This urban horticultural paradise nestled in the heart of Chelsea on W27th Street above the McKittrick hotel is a hidden gem. Once inside, a mysterious elevator ride took us to the top floor where we were led down a dark hallway before reaching a clearing.
The secret garden on the roof terrace has many quirks, including an old train track that leads to a vine draped bar and divides the dining area from the lounge. The floor is covered with pebbles and slate, while intricate trellises of flowers and beautifully unkempt greenery hang from above. Old train carts are dotted throughout for dining and at the bar itself.
When leaving Gallow Green, make sure to ask if you can take the stairs… you’ll be given a mask and led into ‘Sleep No More’; an immersive, award winning theatrical performance based on Shakespeare’s Macbeth.
Don’t miss this charming rooftop bar next time you’re in New York and in need of a little escapism from the concrete jungle.
